এ দু’টো ভিন্ন ধারণা একই সঙ্গে চলতে পারে না। এ দু’টোর কোনও একটা ধরে নিয়ে গণিতচর্চা করলে গণিতের কিছু এসে যায় না। দ্বিতীয় দলের ধারণা যদি আমরা মেনে নিই, অভেদ ও সমীকরণ স্বতন্ত্র অর্থাৎ একটার অন্তর্ভুক্ত অন্যটা নয়, তবে পর্ষদের সপ্তম শ্রেণির গণিত বইয়ে (পৃষ্ঠা ১৫৮) ৯.১.৩ সমীকরণ সমাধান-এর স্বতঃসিদ্ধ ৩ সংশোধন করতে হবে। স্বতঃসিদ্ধ ৩–এ লেখা আছে—‘সমীকরণের উভয়পক্ষকে সমান সমান দিয়ে গুণ করলে, সমীকরণের সমতা অপরিবর্তিত থাকে।’ সমীকরণের উভয়পক্ষকে সমান সমান সংখ্যা শূন্য দিয়ে গুণ করলে সমীকরণের পরিবর্তিত রূপ আর সমীকরণ থাকে না, অভেদ হয়ে যায়। যেমন— x2-5x+6=0 সমীকরণের উভয় পক্ষকে শূন্য দিয়ে গুণ করলে পাওয়া যায় 0x2-0x+0=0, যা সমীকরণ নয়। একটি অভেদ। সমীকরণ সমাধানের জন্য এই স্বতঃসিদ্ধটির প্রয়োগ করা যায় না, যদি না স্বতঃসিদ্ধটির মধ্যে ‘সমান সমান সংখ্যা’-এর পাশে ‘শূন্য ছাড়া’ লেখা হয়। সাধারণ আকারের দ্বিঘাত সমীকরণের সমাধানে শ্রীধর আচার্যের সূত্রটি প্রতিষ্ঠার ক্ষেত্রে শেষ অংশে আমরা নোট দিই (as, a ¹ 0)। অথচ যে অংশে ax2+bx+c=0 সমীকরণের উভয় পক্ষকে 4a দিয়ে গুণ করি সেখানে (as, a ¹ 0) লিখি না। a শূন্য হলে 4a3x3+4ab+4ac=0 সমীকরণ থাকে না, অভেদ হয়ে যায়। প্রথম দলের ধারণা অনুযায়ী এই স্বতঃসিদ্ধটির প্রয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে সাবধানতা জরুরি। প্রথম দলের ধারণার স্বপক্ষে কয়েকটা গণিত অভিধানের মত নীচে দেওয়া হল। “Identity : An equation which states that two expressions are equal for all values of any variables that occur, such as x2-y2=(x+y)(x-y) এবং x(x-1)(x-2)=x3-3x2+2x.
